HandBookLive Format and a Sample Script Template for an effective product video

The HandBookLive platform is ideal for either products or services.

Our format is unique and establishes a standard that makes it easy for the average consumer to quickly access and identify relevant information they are seeking. All videos produced in the HandBookLive format are divided into multiple chapters, and  all videos will have these chapters:
Chapter 1-Introduction,
Chapter 2-Basic Features, (TipOptional, but highly recommended)
Chapter 3-Quick Start.
Additional chapters.

Watch this short video in which Simon Smith, the President of HandBookLive.com talks about what is important when creating your videos.

As of August 2010 we also have a special category for book trailers. Learn more about the format if you are creating a book trailer video to be posted on HandBookLive.com

Your finished video files can be in flv, avi, mov, mp4, or any other video format. Any chapter can be as short as 5 sec or even be an image if appropriate for your product or service)

  • Best format for product video

Introduction: Average length is 1 min. Introduces the product/service and the company. Identifies the target audience for the product. Explains the product/service's main function. (Tip Can be an image file, a graphic that displays the product/service name and the company logo)

  • Basic Features (TipOptional, but highly recommended): Average length is 1-3 min. Provides a more detailed overview of the product/service's features and benefits. Indicates essential functions and highlights interesting features and points of difference.

  • Quick Start: Average length is 3-5 min. Shows how to use the product/service step by step or simply shows it in action. It needs to give consumers enough information about how the product or service works. You cannot just claim that the product is "easy to use", or tell the viewers to "call to find out more".

  • Chapters 4+ Optional Advanced Chapters: Provide optional additional information as required. i.e. in-depth assembly, advanced processes, what to expect, FAQs, complex feature/process detail.

  • Watch examples of different ways you can handle Introduction, Basic Features and Quick Start:

All HandBookLive videos must be formatted into chapters and the platform allows for the separate uploading of these specific chapter files after creation.

The HandBookLive platform is flexible; there is no right or wrong approach. Depending on the nature of the product/service, shorter or longer chapters may be appropriate.

Tip for the do-it-yourself producer: It is recommended to do the video in a voice-over format as it will be easier to replace the soundtrack later if change is required.

After the files are edited they will be uploaded to the HandBookLive administration site. Videos can be in any video format and are automatically encoded as mp4 files. It is better to upload medium resolution files, but the system will allow you to upload files up to 1G in size.
